Product Description

HOMEMADE LYE AND LARD SOAP, OZARK MOUNTAINS
AS A LITTLE BOY LIVING IN THE OZARK MOUNTAIN AREA OF ARKANSAS I REMEMBER THE PROCESS OF HOG KILLING AND USING THE FAT FOR MAKING SOAP. A LITTLE LYE WAS CAREFULLY ADDED WITH WATER AND LARD MAKING L & L SOAP (LYE AND LARD). I STILL HAVE THE LARGE IRON POT USED IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING SOAP.

A lye is a liquid obtained by leaching ashes (containing largely potassium carbonate or "potash"), or a strong alkali which is highly soluble in water producing caustic basic solutions. "Lye" is commonly the alternative name of sodium or potassium hydroxide.

THIS IS A BAR OF THE HOMEMADE SOAP LEFT OVER FROM OUR SOAP MAKING DAYS LIVING IN MUCH SIMPLER TIMES.
