CIVIL WAR OFFICER METAL WREATH FOR KEPI, CAP
THIS IS A RARE CIVIL WAR OFFICER METAL WREATH DEVICE AFFIXED TO THE FRONT OF A "KEPI" STYLE CAP WORN BY BOTH THE NORTH AND SOUTH DURING THAT TERRIBLE WAR BETWEEN THE NORTH AND SOUTH. THIS "KEPI" TYPE CAP WAS COPIED AFTER THE FRENCH MILITARY WEAR. THIS WREATH IS IN GOOD CONDITION. ALL THE NETTLE LIKE PINS TO APPLY TO THE KEPI ARE STILL PRESENT. IN THE CENTER OF THE WREATH YOU WILL NOTICE A SUPPORT WHERE THE BRANCH OF SERVICE INSIGNA WOULD BE ATTACHED. THIS ARTIFACT IS 2.75" WIDE.
The kepi (English pronunciation: /'k?pi?/ or /'ke?pi?/) is a cap with a flat circular top and a peak, or visor. Etymologically, the term is a loanword of the French képi, itself a re-spelled version of the Alemannic Käppi: a diminutive form of Kappe, meaning "cap". In Europe, this headgear is most commonly associated with French military and police uniforms. In North America, it is usually associated with the American Civil War, as it was worn by soldiers on both sides of the conflict.
